Natural vs synthetic

Because we at Paws by Eddie make all our products ourselves, we have the luxury of choosing our own ingredients. We love to use as many natural ingredients as possible. For nail polish this is pretty impossible, but our lip products, cuticle oils, manibombs, mascaras and creams are all available in natural options. Now, we say ‘natural‘ instead of ‘organic‘ because we are not yet certified and thus not allowed to use that qualification for our products.
Fabiënne is always doing research on natural cosmetics (humectants, emollients and occlusive agents, anyone?), has done a course and owns a big book detailing the properties of various carrier/base oils, waxes, essential oils and so on. However, sometimes we just reeeeaaally love a synthetic, oh so yummy scent. We believe it’s okay to ‘cheat’ sometimes. Hey, if everyone would replace just one of their beauty products with an organic, vegan option, imagine what kind of a difference that would make. We do our best, but don’t want to force our customers to miss out on some delicious products. On top of that, it is important to realise that even natural oils can be damaging or even toxic. Also: chemicals do *not* equal bad for you. Heck, 41 chemical elements are commonly found in the body’s construction.
We do however feel strongly about vegan and especially cruelty free cosmetics, as no animal should ever have to suffer for our vanity.

Did you know animal testing is obligatory for all cosmetics that are sold on the Chinese market? This includes any international brands.

Nail polish

Our nail polish base is 5free. This means it is free of formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene and DPB. If you are unsure about the pros and cons of 3free/5free/7free, check out this post by Lab Muffin.
All our polishes are vegan and cruelty free, the latter is required in the EU (where we are situated).
The ingredients are Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Denatured Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol/Trimelitic, Anhydride Copolymer, Triphenyl Phosphate, Trimethyl Pentanyl, Disobutyrate, Acrylates Copolymer, Silica, CI60725 and varying per polish pigments (no carmine), micas, spectraflair and/or glitters.

Cuticle oils

Our cuticle oil is hand blended from 100% organic, vegan ingredients. This also means we have not added a preservative, only an antioxidant. It should last around six months, but if it starts to smell off before that time, stop using it.

Lip products

We have lip balms and lip scrubs blended from strictly natural, vegan ingredients, and balms with (partly) synthetic flavouring and/or colouring. This is clearly mentioned in the listing, so be sure to check this before you order. These also include just an antioxidant, no preservatives. We don’t use beeswax or palm oil.

For our manibombs the same goes as for our lip products.

Facial cream *coming soon*

Mascara *coming soon*

Mascara is a tricky product, as our eyes are extremely vulnerable. We offer our mascara as a vegan only or organic, vegan option. Our mascara, like the other products, does not include preservatives. It should last around six months (you should always replace your mascara after six months max, even store bought/big brands) but if it starts to smell ‘off’ or look odd, stop using it. We use see-through containers so you can always see how much mascara you have left, and how it looks.

Lotions *coming soon*

Our lotions contain cetearyl alcohol as an emulsifier. This is a synthetic compound.

Did you know when a company says ‘our products are not tested on animals’ it doesn’t mean the product is cruelty free? They are not mentioning if their ingredients were tested on animals. Cheeky!
Our products nor ingredients are tested on animals. Not even on LacquerLabCat.
